Facebook Graph Search
It wasn't long before Facebook released its new feature named - Facebook Graph Search, which is currently in Beta!Currently the feature is available to limited basis by request. To get this feature, head up to the Facebook Page here (Facebook Graph Search), signup at bottom, and wait for sometime before its delivered to you.
The first impression is just simple with your 'top search bar' replaced with a large, bold and highly interactive text box...and the best of it, you take your mouse to top left to check your notifications, but ohhh!..its now on right and its really going to take a little while till you get used to that or facebook solves the problem by the feedback or any A/B Testing they employ.
The post focuses on two aspects - one is Social and other is Technical. And as someone might take,
" Facebook = Social + Technology "
Lets begin with technical aspect,
Graph Search derives its name from the popular Data Structure in Computer Science used to represent 'Data' with 'Complex Relationship between Them'.The term 'Graph' is infact not new to Facebook as they have been using it in the "Graph Api" as well as their highly anticipated "Social Graph".
The new feature really shows the power as well as massive amounts of data, Facebook has been gathering, which is evident from their post last year which mentioned that their Data Warehouse receives almost Half a Peta Byte per day. The company even designed their custom analytical, Hadoop-based solution scaling across hundreds of clusters. The new feature is truly a big play, an innovation and a glimpse of the future of data and how Facebook use it to deliver new products and experiences.
On the social side,
Socially the product is much viable and of high importance in finding the people you live with and the things that you do.Searching on it was as simple as typing: "My friends who study in k.n.i.t, sultanpur" and there was a stream of custom results.
The query is even much flexible as "Photos of Friends of My Friends of my Friends who live in Sultanpur, up" and thousand+ pics...!
Although the feature seems quite impressive but it brings on with it some new glitches about 'Privacy'. It now seems that people need to be a little more careful about their privacy concerns, in whatever way they desire.
Its not that the new feature poses threat to identity and privacy, but it poses a new question..."What privacy actually means in coming times...?"
